Russel Metals Takes Cutting to New Lengths with ESAB Laser

Edmonton, AB – Russel Metals’ new Alpharex AXD large panel laser cutting gantry from ESAB Welding & Cutting Products, installed at its Edmonton, Alberta location, cuts clean, accurate parts with less time spent on cleaning and reworking.

The result is higher levels of output and increased versatility in serving customers. Russel Metals Inc. is one of the largest metals distribution and processing companies in North America.

Customers will notice increased quality in product and service from the system’s high production rates, low operating costs and great flexibility. With safe laser emission standards, the system is also environmentally friendly. Key features of the system include working widths up to 10 ft. (3 m), 5 kw laser operating power, 82 ft. (25 m) long rail system encompassing 10-20 ft. (3-6 m) tables, and positioning accuracy of +/- 0.15 mm over a 6.5 x 6.5 ft. (2 x 2 m) area.

Production cutting capabilities are up to 1 in. (25.4 mm) on carbon steel, 5/8 in. (15.8 mm) on stainless steel and ½ in. (12.7 mm) on aluminum.

The Alpharex laser cutting system combines ESAB’s patented beam delivery and advanced gantry and control technology with a compact Trumpf CO2 laser for the highest quality laser cutting.
